Hattem is a town and borough in the Dutch province of Gelderland. The borough has 1,636 inhabitants (1 January 2007, source CBS (Central Bureau for Statistics of The Netherlands) and has a surface of 24,28 km² (of which 0.93 km² are water). here are no other places within the borough boundaries.Hattem was granted franchise in 1299. It was a Hanseatic town and a fortress. The seven-hundredth anniversary was celebrated in 1999 and included the national entry of St. Nicolas. The apostle Andrew is the patron saint of Hattem.

Significant work of an historical nature was performed by General Hoefer. Hoefer was married to Baroness van Heemstra (the aunt of Audrey Hepburn) and due to him the Dijkpoort of the then run-down town was renovated. It was embellished with four turrets which were designed by P.J.H. Cuypers.
